Haiti Mission Trip - Update One
Here's Brent's first update for the Haiti Mission Trip. It was sent Friday September 5, 2008. ~~~~ Hi Everyone, We hope you are well. We have arrived safely here in Haiti. We have had a full day of travel and ministry. Please pray that we will be refreshed and ready to go for tomorrow's work. Our little team is definitely bonding as brothers in Christ. The accommodations here are excellent and we feel very safe. However, I do have to point out that the biggest security issue was not here, but as we were leaving Los Angeles. See, Zack was bragging to Kent and I that he had a big surprise for us on his carry on. Kent and I whisked right through security, but when Zack went through, it was like an alarm went off and there were officers all over the place. Apparently, he had buckets of peanut butter, 3-16oz Monster Energy drinks, hand lotion, sun tan lotion, and a host of other not-allowed products...I would have taken a picture, but I would not have been able to hold the camera still because Kent & I were rolling. It has been awhile since brother has Zack traveled, so we forgave him and moved on. Zack is also a walking cripple right now - as soon as we arrive home he has a serious neck surgery scheduled - so Kent & I lugged all 400 pounds of carry - on and luggage around. (to be great we must first become a servant of all, right?). When we arrived in Miami, Zack decided to inform us that it is the hottest month of the year in Haiti, and then we found out that hurricane Ike will be hitting hard on Monday. This is about the time we had considered revoking Zack's "trip leader" status. We tried to see if we could possibly get out of Haiti a day early, but they are still back - logged from people trying to get out of Haiti from the last hurricane. Pastor Marcel, our Haitian Contact, strongly encouraged us that the devil is just trying to ruin what God has for us here. We agreed and will press on through Monday! Once we settled in, we were off to visit the the the village garden area where the seeds from Calvary Chapel WestGrove are in full harvest. What an amazing sight to turn the corner and see the bountiful harvest growing from seeds provided directly from the body of CCWG to the believers here. We found out that local towns were 10" under water from the recent hurricanes, but the fields where our seeds were planted were unaffected...as if God unfolded and umbrella to protect the food that will be feeding over 200 people for many months. It was an incredible blessing, one that would not have come about without people like you sending the seeds. We will be resting tonight and getting ready for ministry tomorrow. On Sunday I will preach on The Storms of Life (from John 6:1-21) to over 1000 believers. All kidding aside, Zack has a wonderful work here and his contact is amazing. We are looking forward to what God has for us over the next couple of days. We love you all and are so grateful for your prayer support. Be blessed,CCWG Hatiti Team (Pastor Brent, Zack & Kent) ~~~~ Please continue to pray for this trip. God is really working through these guys - read more in their second update! Thanks! God Bless, Karissa
