Global Missionary Work Get Your Family Involved!
I have been adding missionary work updates to my Christian Family Blog for a couple of months now... And, lots of you are reading them! But, eventually they 'disappear' because my blog only shows the most recent entries. I thought about it, and realized that they are worth keeping around for a while longer! :o) Missionary Work is becoming very popular these days, because it is so much easier to travel and communicate abroad. Some of you may have traveled around the world to preach the gospel, build houses, aid orphanages, donate livestock to rural farmers, support new pastors, or feed hungry children. Awesome! Praise the Lord! Others wish you could go, but you need to stay home to support your family. You want to help, but you don't know how.
Your family can support missionary work through... ~ Prayer ~ Donations ~ Sponsorship ~ Fundraising ~ Joining A Mission Team Yourself, or with your family! Let's explore each of these, and finish up with some real missionary updates from Haiti, Nepal, and India!
You Can Pray For Global Missions
Prayer is amazing! We have 24 hour access to the throne room of God. So, we can pray anytime and anywhere, for anything or anyone. Prayer is probably the most important way your family can support missionary work. You can pray for the team's safety while traveling, their security in foreign countries, and that God will accomplish mighty things during their trip. I know first hand, and through other missionaries, that prayer makes a huge difference in mission trips. It is so important!
You Can Donate To Missionary Work
There are tons of ways to donate to missionary work...You can donate your time by helping with fund raisers, phone calls, and e-mailed updates. You can donate your money to charities, sponsorship programs, and mission teams. (Make it a part of your monthly tithe to give to your church and to missionary work.) You can also donate gifts to needy children and families - especially around Christmas time.
Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse
is a great way to donate gifts to needy children. And, it's something your family can do together. Just make sure that you give to honest and reputable organizations. Do some homework, and make sure your donations go to the 'real thing.' I wish I didn't have to warn you about this, but unfortunately we all have to be careful of scams. :o(
Get Your Family Involved in Sponsorship
Child sponsorship is an amazing way to get your family involved in global missions. There are so many children that need food, education, and hope. Organizations like
World Vision
and
Promise Child
are reaching out to needy children and families all over the world. For your donation of $15 - $30 each month, these organizations provide... ~ Food and crops for hungry families. ~ Education and uniforms to eager little students. ~ Medical assistance and vaccinations. ~ Small gifts around birthdays and holidays. ~ And, of course, the message of the love of Jesus. We have made child sponsorship part of our monthly tithe - it's so easy to do, and it changes lives. You can even include your kids in child sponsorship! ~ Read them the updates from your sponsored child. ~ Have them draw pictures or write letters back to your sponsored child. ~ Encourage them to pray for your sponsored child. ~ Teach them to tithe by contributing coins to your 'sponsorship fund'. ~ Have a bake sale or walk-a-thon fund raiser to sponsor other children.
Child sponsorship is a great way to expand your kids world view, and introduce them to missionary work.
You Can Earn Money For Missionary Work
Fundraising can be done to raise money for specific mission teams, child sponsorship, or any other charities you want to support. And, it is only limited to your imagination! You can help organize... ~ golf tournaments ~ bake sales ~ walk-a-thons ~ donation auctions ~ multi-family garage sales ~ personal fundraiser letters ~ car washes ...These are just off the top of my head - but there are lots of other ideas out there! Think of something unique, and have fun raising money for global missions!
You Can Join A Mission Team!
Ray and I went to Nepal on a mission trip before Joshua was born. It was the most amazing experience - a total life changer. I'm sure we will go back, as soon as our kids are old enough. Lots of families at our church go on mission trips. Some of them go together, and some leave their kids home with family or trusted friends while they are gone. Here's the thing - if God is calling you, he will provide everything you need. He will provide the money, the time off work, and the loving care for your children. So, if you think you are being called - pray, pray, pray! Don't disregard it because you think it's impossible. Nothing is impossible with God! :o) He may be calling you, or your older children, for a specific reason. You might have a special gift or contribution that no one else can match! Seek God's plan in this area, He just might take you on an amazing adventure.
