I hope that this pregnancy journal inspires you! If you have children, you can read this and remember the joys of your own pregnancies. If you don't have children, you can read and see what you might expect during pregnancy. And, if you are pregnant now, we can go through the ups and downs together! So, enjoy these weekly pregnancy journal posts - filled with honesty, beauty, encouragement, wonder, and perseverance. Quick note: the most recent week will always be first. So, if you want to read from the beginning of my pregnancy journal, start at the end. :o) ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 39: Friday August 7th, 2009 Jeremy Lucas Rodriguez is HERE! Praise the Lord! He was born on Tuesday, August 4th, at 6:45 pm. He was 20.5 inches long, and 7 lbs. 10 oz. I got to the hospital at 7:30 am on Tuesday (they bumped my 6:00 appointment back a little), and my wonderful nurse Marilyn showed me to my room. I filled out the paperwork, and then she got me hooked up to the Oxytocin to induce my labor. I was all hooked up by about 9:00 am. 
The contractions started to strengthen over the next few hours. Then, my doctor came in to check me at about 12:30, and I was around 2 cm dilated. She broke my water at around 1:30, and the contractions got much stronger. My doctor also sent the anesthesiologist to my room at 2:00, to do my epidural. I was a little concerned that the epidural would slow down the progression of my labor, but Marilyn reassured me that they could keep my labor progressing with extra Oxytocin, if necessary. 
While the anesthesiologist got the epidural ready, I had 3-4 very strong contractions. So, I was pretty grateful that I was getting the epidural at that time! From 2:00 until around 6:00 I just rested and talked with Ray. It was a very relaxing labor, overall. I also bonded with my nurse, Marilyn. I found out that she is a Christian, and would be going on a mission trip soon! Yep...God gave me a wonderful Christian nurse to help bring Jeremy into the world! Awesome, huh?! 
Marilyn checked me around 4:00 and I was about 4 cm dilated. She came back at 6:00 and checked me, and I was already at 8 cm! Wow - what progress! About 15 minutes after she checked me, I started to feel some rectal pressure - a sure sign that Jeremy was coming! I told Marilyn, and we both rejoiced! She checked me at 6:15 - I was already at 10 cm and she could feel his head. Marilyn said, "Oh yeah! We're ready!" She told Ray to grab a leg, and I started pushing. Jeremy started to come out pretty easily, so Marilyn told me to stop pushing to give my doctor time to arrive. Once Dr. Chu got there, I gave it about 3-4 good pushes, and Jeremy was born! It was AMAZING! The doctor put him right onto my chest, and I got to see his beautiful little face for the first time. Oh...he is precious! 
Marilyn's shift ended at 7:00 pm. I was so glad that she was there for Jeremy's birth, she was so wonderful! She told me goodbye, and she hoped God would truly bless our family. My Dad and his wife, Teri, brought Joshua straight to the hospital at around 7:30 pm. Joshua was eager to see his little brother. He wanted to hold him, and pet his head, and was concerned about the little wristbands we were all wearing. Joshua was adorable - he saw Jeremy and said, "Awww...he's cute!" He is going to be an awesome big brother! :o) 
Jeremy and I were transferred to a double room at about 10:15 pm, and we were released the following day, Wednesday, at about 8:30 pm. I was supposed to stay until Thursday, but I was allowed to leave early because we were doing so great. I'm so glad I got to go home - it's pretty impossible to sleep at a hospital, especially in a double room. I was a little overwhelmed when we first got home because Joshua was tired and cranky, and Jeremy was awake most of the night. But, the next day, we had a nice relaxing day at home and we all quickly fell into a nice schedule. Jeremy is a wonderful little eater - he is really perfect at nursing. And, he has been sleeping pretty well too. He is up every couple of hours at night, of course, but that's normal. 
We are so blessed to have our sons, Joshua and Jeremy. My heart feels bigger now, and I can't imagine life without my 2 boys. Love, Karissa ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 39: Monday August 3rd, 2009 Hi friends! I had my last doctor's appointment this morning. She checked my cervix and discovered that I am closer to 2 cm dilated. She gave me a tip to do some squats to help me to dilate and efface quicker. And, she gave me the green light to be induced tomorrow morning at 6:00 am! Jeremy's coming tomorrow, no matter what! :o) I am super excited, and a little nervous. We would appreciate your prayers - for my labor and delivery, and Jeremy's health. Thanks! I will post some baby pictures and stats as soon as I can, but it might be a few days. I will likely be in the hospital until Thursday morning, and I'm sure life will get hectic soon after we get home. :o) Until my next baby update - may God bless you! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 39: Thursday July 30th, 2009 Hi friends! So, I have been second guessing myself lately, because my contractions have been progressing so s-l-o-w-l-y. I was even thinking that the "bloody show" I had on Tuesday morning was actually a result of my doctor's internal exam on Monday. And, that might have been the case. But, I had more spotting this morning, and there's no way it's related to anything other than labor. Plus, I have been having more contractions this morning, and they feel a little different. So...we'll see how things go! I have no idea when he's coming, but I think it's soon. It would be wonderful if he came on his own. I would like to experience labor without being induced, because we induced Joshua. I'll keep you posted! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless you! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 38: Tuesday July 28th, 2009 Hi Friends! Jeremy is coming soon, so I am going to update more frequently. Since my last update, I have been having more random contractions. Some of them are pretty uncomfortable, but they are not really coming regularly. Yesterday, Monday, I went to the doctor. She checked me again and I am still dilated to 1 cm. She made an appointment for me to be induced on 6:00 am Tuesday August 4th. And, I have an appointment on Monday the 3rd for her to check my cervix again. Today, Tuesday July 28th, I woke up in the middle of the night with a strong contraction. It went away and I went back to sleep. But, at 8:30 am I had some "bloody show" - a blood and mucus discharge. I looked in my "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book, and it said that labor is likely to start within 24 hours, or sometimes within 2-3 days. So, he's coming soon! I'll keep you posted! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless you! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 37: July 16-22, 2009 I'm officially FULL TERM!!! :o) Jeremy could come any day now, and he would be healthy. Yay! Joshua and I went swimming at a friend's house on Thursday - the pool felt so great! But Joshua was kicking and splashing like a crazy man, so it wasn't the most relaxing dip I've ever had. :o) Ray and I did some more house shopping on Saturday, and found some great homes. We'll see if one of them will work out! We also organized Joshua and Jeremy's room, to make space for Jeremy's new things. We boxed and labeled Joshua's old clothes, and boy, he has a ton! Jeremy will not be lacking any clothes as he grows, that's for sure! I had my doctor's appointment on Monday. I have gained 5 more pounds (not too bad!). She started with the ultrasound, and found that he's in the proper head-down position. She measured his head three times, and discovered that it 3 WEEKS bigger than "normal." She also measured his torso, which was 1 week bigger, and his arms and legs, which were normal size. I asked her if she would induce my labor, because his head is so big. She said yes, but no sooner than August 3rd, unless I go into labor before then. She also did a pelvic exam and checked my cervix. I am dilated to 1 cm already. She gave me some suggestions to help prepare my cervix - like squats and lots of walking. So, it looks like we will have Jeremy by August 3rd, no matter what! We are hoping that he comes on his own before then, but it's nice to have an end in sight!
Please pray for me and Jeremy - especially that I will be able to push out his big ol' head. I am a little concerned about a possible c-section, that would not be my first choice for delivery. Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 36: July 9-15, 2009 Another great week! My friend Amber gave me a little baby shower on Sunday. It was so fun, and such a blessing to receive some of the little things we needed. :o) I have been feeling ok lately. I'm getting more Braxton Hicks contractions, heartburn, and pelvic pain. It feels like Jeremy's head is directly on my pelvis sometimes! I have been walking around a lot - shopping for the baby shower with Amber, and house shopping with Ray and our Realtor. It can be pretty uncomfortable, but it's good exercise. I have been a bit more emotional lately. Some weeks I feel more ready to have Jeremy, this week I was not. Don't get me wrong, I am excited to have another baby...I just know things will change dramatically. I have a very close relationship with Joshua. He loves to crawl up onto my lap and rest his head on my chest. And, when I'm nursing little Jeremy, he won't be able to cuddle with me when he wants to. It will be an adjustment, and he might feel replaced. But, I will do whatever I can to make Joshua feel special, loved, and important. It will be extra work for me...but well worth it! Anyways...this has been a great week! Next week I have my doctor's appointment and ultrasound. And, I will post a new belly picture. :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 35: July 2-8, 2009 This was a fun week. :o) On Friday - Ray, Joshua and I went to the Long Beach Aquarium with some friends. Joshua just loved the "fishies" and sharks. Afterward, we dropped Joshua off with my Dad and did some house hunting with our Realtor. Lots of walking around that day, and boy, I was feeling sore on Saturday! Luckily, Saturday was July 4th. We had a pool party and BBQ at Ray's Aunt and Uncle's house. It was great! We invited some friends, and spent the day munching, relaxing, and swimming. The water really felt wonderful - it took all the pressure off my back and hips. I definitely need to do more swimming this summer, it really helps with my discomfort! I am still having some AM nausea, but it is getting better. I have started drinking "Ensure" in the mornings to get some extra vitamins and calories. It really soothes my stomach. I am attending the Women's Bible Study at our church on Tuesday mornings. It has been fun and encouraging. The ladies are so sweet, and Joshua has a wonderful time in his children's class. Our memory verse last week was Philippians 4:19, "Any my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." One of my favorites! And, it is especially encouraging since we are trusting God to lead us to the right house. I know He will meet our needs, we just have to build our endurance and patience! Whatever your need is today - give it to God. He will always provide! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 34: June 25-July 1, 2009 Hi Friends! Joshua is all better - praise the Lord! But, I have been getting more and more uncomfortable. My nausea is still lingering, and my hips are loosening up and getting really sore. I am also getting more Braxton Hicks contractions, but they feel more like mild labor contractions now. I saw my doctor on Monday, and everything looks great. She checked the heartbeat with the Doppler, and measured my tummy. She also checked my weight gain - but I didn't gain any weight! It was strange, because I am obviously getting bigger, and the baby is growing, but my weight remained the same as last time. I guess my body just evened itself out, because I had gained a little too much the previous month. Anyways...everything is fine! At my next visit (July 20th) I will get another ultrasound to check on Jeremy's size and position. And, she will do a pelvic exam to check for activity in my cervix. I am hoping that I might start dilating by then. I will be almost 38 weeks by my appointment, so Jeremy could come around that time and be perfectly healthy. We'll see! I am definitely ready to meet little Jeremy, but he does need to wait a few more weeks! Oh...house hunting is going great! Please pray that God leads us to the right house, and smooths the way when we decide to make an offer. Thanks! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 33: June 18-24, 2009 Joshua has been battling a little cold this week. So, we haven't been sleeping too great. Joshua wakes up coughing, and then I wake up to help him. Even when Joshua sleeps through the night, I still wake up often. I am pretty uncomfortable, and I usually have pretty bad heartburn. I have started sleeping with 2 pillows to keep me more upright. It really helps. I have noticed that Jeremy is starting to put pressure on my lungs. I was reading Joshua a book this week, and I was having a hard time breathing. Whenever I sit up really straight, I feel the pressure on my lungs. But, I will have more lung capacity when Jeremy drops before delivery. :o) I have also noticed a return to my morning nausea. And, my appetite is decreasing (probably because everything gives me heartburn!). Hopefully the nausea will go away soon. I'll keep you posted. But, on the bright side, Jeremy is moving quite a bit and still gets hiccups all the time! I can feel his joints and little fingers/toes when he rolls around. It is SO cool! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 32: June 11-17, 2009 Hi friends! An exciting milestone - Ray and I pre-registered at the hospital this week! We dropped off the paperwork, and a nurse took a copy of my insurance card. She also gave us their direct phone number, so we can call when I'm in labor and on my way in. It's kinda funny, because we live right across the street from the hospital. But, it will be nice to have my room ready and waiting for me! I have been having more and more uncomfortable Braxton Hicks contractions. Especially on Saturday when we were driving a lot. I have noticed that I need to drink more water, sometimes my contractions are caused by mild dehydration. Here are two new belly pictures...
Joshua came down with a little cold this week. Nothing too serious, but he was running a fever for a couple of days. I get so sad when he's sick. I just wish I could take away his sickness and endure it for him. I think that's how God feels about us sometimes. Especially when we are enduring pain or difficult trials. But, just like I know that Joshua's little cold will strengthen his immune system, God knows that our trials will build perseverance, character and hope (Romans 5:2-5 and James 1:2-4).
God reveals himself in new ways when you have children! We may never fully grasp God's love for us, but He gives us a glimpse when we become parents. Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 31: June 4-10, 2009 Hi friends! I have been feeling pretty good this week. I had a doctor's appointment on Monday - everything went well. I did, however, gain about 6 pounds in 3 weeks (double what I should have). My doctor gave me these pointers to slow down my weight gain... cut down on fruit juice, eat smaller meals, more often, don't eat dessert too close to bed time, and drink more water. Overall, she wasn't too worried about the gain. I have only gained about 16 pounds total, so that's still in the "good" range. I told her that the iron pills were making me sick. So, she gave me a list of iron-rich foods to eat. Here are some foods that top the list... clams, oysters, liver, soybeans, pumpkin seeds, and squash seeds Very interesting! So, if you are anemic, give these a try. :o) I also told my doctor about my pelvic pressure and uncomfortable Braxton Hicks. She told me that everything sounded normal, but that I should take it easy and rest to avoid pre-term labor. It's doctor's orders - I get to nap! Yay! So, everything is going well. I'm in the final stretch and everything sure is stretching! I'll post another belly picture next week. Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 30: May 28-June 3, 2009 This week, Tums have been my best friend! I have had heartburn almost every night. It's a bummer, but the Tums work perfectly and they provide extra calcium. Jeremy has really started to move around a lot. It feels like he is doing full cartwheels in there! Ray and I were watching TV on Saturday night, and Jeremy started to roll around. Ray saw my belly jiggling and felt Jeremy's rolls, kicks and punches. They were so strong! Some exciting news - Ray and I have started researching buying our first house! We live in a 2-bedroom now, and it's getting a little small for our growing family. We are getting everything prepared for our loan pre-approval, and then we'll start looking around. We are so excited! We would appreciate your prayers during this long process. I will keep you posted. :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 29: May 21-27, 2009 This has been a very interesting week. Every Thursday, Ray and I have some friends over for a Bible study. We have a time of prayer, and then our friend Eric leads our study through Acts. Anyways, I got very dizzy during the study this week. It was pretty scary, but it passed after we opened the door for some cool air. We had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend, and helped Joshua get over a little weekend virus. Then, I started getting some pain in my lower back and hips, and my braxton hicks contractions started to ache. The next morning I had some serious nausea (from my iron pills), and bad heartburn that night. So...my doctor was right. This pregnancy is more uncomfortable than my first. Hopefully the labor and delivery will be easier and faster - to make up for it! On a positive note - I have started writing new pages for the website. They are practical and helpful for your family, and focused on God's Word. I will post them very soon - stay tuned! :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 28: May 14-20, 2009 I am officially in the third trimester! Woo hoo! It's the final stretch. :o) I started taking my iron pills this week (two a day like my doctor prescribed), and at first I had a good burst of energy. But, after a few days, they started to make me feel sick. On Monday I was very very nauseous. So, I started to take one per day, and that seems to help. I had another doctor's appointment this Friday. My weight gain is right on track - I'm 157 lbs. now (up 3 pounds from the last visit a month ago). My doctor confirmed my anemia, and she also gave me my Rh shot right in the office - very conveinent. Ray and I had a nice weekend together. Joshua stayed at my Dad's house on Saturday night, so we could go to a birthday party. Ray and I went to church on Sunday morning, and then out to lunch and a movie in the afternoon. It was wonderful to have a date with my hubby! We had a nice dinner with my Dad and his wife, and then we took Joshua home. I felt my first Braxton Hicks contractions on Wednesday night. My belly got hard as a rock, and then loosened up after about 30 seconds. It didn't hurt, but was a little uncomfortable.
I got them towards the end of my pregnancy with Joshua too, but they were never uncomfortable. These felt a little different. Here's another belly picture! No matter what, when Jeremy starts hiccuping or really moving around, all the uncomfortable aspects of pregnancy just fade away. He is such a wonderful little blessing, and I just love being pregnant! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 27: May 7-13, 2009 I am still in vacation mode! But, it's time to get some work done. :o) I finished a scrapbook for a friend this week (her and her hubby paid me to put one together for their Australia trip). And, while I was working on the book, I was pretty uncomfortable with some pain in my lower back and hips. This pregnancy has been more uncomfortable overall - with the longer period of nausea and frequent backaches. Oh well, it's all worth it! A nurse from my doctor's office called this week, and informed me of my blood test results. I do not have gestational diabetes, but I am anemic. So, she prescribed some over-the-counter iron pills. To tell you the truth, I had a feeling that something was off. I have been super tired lately, and I get dizzy easily when I stand too long. So, I wasn't surprised to hear that I am anemic. I looked it up, and found some common symptoms of anemia: ~ pale skin ~ weak ~ easily tired or breathless ~ fainting and/or dizzy spells I have experienced all of these lately. So, I am starting to take the extra iron supplements. We'll see how things go! Next week, I officially start my third trimester! I will post some new belly pictures - I am really getting big! :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 26: April 30-May 6, 2009 We made it back home from Georgia on the 4th. What a wonderful trip! We left on Thursday the 30th, and Joshua did a wonderful job on the plane. We took his car seat, but didn't need it because the seats were too small. He was just fine without it, and he was actually able to lay across his seat and sleep for a couple of hours. On Friday, I felt some pressure low in my belly near my pelvis. I think it might have been from traveling - we walked a lot at the airport, and then I couldn't move much on the plane. I was pretty uncomfortable, but the pressure went away by Saturday morning. Saturday was Daniel and BettyAnn's (Ray's cousin and his wife) annual Cinco De Mayo Party. We spent most of the day preparing for it, and we had a great time at the party. On Sunday we went to The Varsity for lunch, and then to the Georgia Aquarium. Ray's Mom, Rachel, went with us. We had a blast! Joshua loved the fish and the sharks - he was really mesmerized by everything. Then, Monday we traveled home. But, before we left, BettyAnn gave me a wonderful gift... She only uses cloth diapers for her youngest son, and she gave me an entire suitcase full of small cloth diapers that her son had outgrown. I now have everything I need to diaper Jeremy - up to 15 pounds! She gave me all-in-ones, tons of flat diapers with waterproof covers, and extra cloth inserts - worth $100's of dollars, I'm sure! And, she is going to give me her son's larger diapers once he's potty-trained. WOW! What an amazing blessing - another one to add to my list since I started this pregnancy journal. :o) God is SO good! Our flight was a little later in the day, so Joshua was more cranky and fighting sleep. But, he eventually fell asleep on Ray's chest, and slept for about an hour in the plane. I was so concerned with Joshua's fussiness, that I never got up during the flight. I really regretted that, and experienced more pressure in my belly once we got home (the pressure went away by the next morning - no worries!). We had such a wonderful time - here are some pictures! 









Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 25: April 23-29, 2009 Greetings from beautiful Atlanta Georgia! Ray, Joshua and I are visiting his family here for the weekend. Thank you for your prayers - our flight here was wonderful! Joshua did great and everything went perfectly smooth. I will tell you more about our trip next week. :o) This week was great. I was pretty tired though. I was getting ready for the trip, and I was just drained of energy. Plus, Joshua had a little cold that started on Friday, so I was focused on getting him better. But, everything got done, and Joshua was healthy by the time we left. Oh...time to go and pick up Ray's cousins from school! Talk to you all later! :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 24: April 16-22, 2009 I had my 4th appointment with my doctor this week. Everything went great! I have gained almost 10 pounds, so I think I'm right on track. Jeremy's heartbeat sounded strong on the Doppler. He has been moving around a lot, and getting tons of hiccups, so everything feels normal. My doctor gave me the results of some lab work, and my big ultrasound. She said the AFP Screening test for Down's Syndrome and other chromosomal disorders came back negative - so that's good news! And, my big ultrasound also looked great. She said the baby is measuring bigger, but she isn't planning on changing my due date. "We'll keep it the same, since it's just an estimate anyways..." she said. Hey, that's fine with me! I think Jeremy will come earlier than August 13th, so we'll see! Before my next visit, I need to do my glucose screening test (to test for gestational diabetes), and have my Rh shot (since I have a negative blood type). Good thing I'm not afraid of needles, because you get poked and prodded a lot when you're pregnant! :o) I visited a local farmer's market with my friend Amber this weekend. It was fun, but crowded! I love buying local organic fruits and veggies. It really motivates me to eat better, and learn some new healthy recipes. to learn more! A little update - Joshua is sleeping more and more in his "big boy" bed. He really enjoys it, but still requests his crib sometimes. And, he is still potty training like a champ. He is completely trained with #2, and is staying dry in his cloth pants for longer periods during the day. He is such a good boy. At this rate, he'll be an independent little man by the time Jeremy is born! My next pregnancy journal update will likely be in Atlanta Georgia! Ray, Joshua and I are visiting Ray's cousin and his family. Please pray for our plane trip! I have never taken a toddler on a plane before, and I am a little nervous about it. Thanks! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 23: April 9-15, 2009 This was another great week - with no nausea! Yay! We were blessed in a big way this week - some of our great friends, Chris and Noelle, gave us a twin size bed for Joshua! They have three kids, and their boys were graduating into bunk beds, so they gave us one of their old beds. We took Joshua out this weekend, to get a new mattress for the bed, and to get him some special twin-size sheets. He loves trucks and cars, so we found something with lots of construction trucks on it. He was excited to help pick everything out, and I hope he gets excited to sleep in his big bed. I'm sure it will take some getting used to, but that's ok. We have time! It was a wonderful blessing to receive that bed. And, it was a great reminder that God provides for all our needs. I have really been trusting the Lord with our financial needs lately. I was quite a "worry wort" before, until I finally decided it was pointless to worry. I gave my concerns over to the Lord, and He has not let me down! It's really been amazing - to watch God provide, even in this tough economy. God is showing me my favorite passage -
Philippians 4:4-9
- in action! His Word is so true - I have more peace now, a peace that "transcends all understanding." And, that peace is spilling over - into my thoughts, my family, my pregnancy, and my daily concerns. God is so good! :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 22: April 2-8, 2009 This was a BIG week for me - I had no nausea or morning sickness! I think it's safe to say that the nausea is gone! Praise the Lord! I thought this day would never come. :o) Jeremy is moving around a lot, and getting tons of hiccups. I love feeling him move, and Ray does too. It's so cool. This week I started to really pay attention to my eating habits, and my family's nutrition. Especially little Joshua and my dear husband, Ray. They are pretty picky eaters, and don't like many vegetables. So, I borrowed a great cookbook from a friend - Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food . Jessica's recipes are nutritious, packed with hidden pureed veggies, and they are really delicious. We are all eating more veggies now! It's important for all of us - even little Jeremy. :o) Joshua was super cute this week - I just have to share! He was practicing being a big brother, by feeding his bunny in his highchair. He is pretending more and more now, and really using his imagination.  
He is so sweet, we are extremely blessed.
I think he will be a wonderful big brother. Of course, we will all need to adjust to life with a newborn - it will be a big change.... But, what a wonderful experience for Joshua and Jeremy to grow up together! Ray and I are only children, and we always wanted the companionship of siblings. We're excited that Joshua and Jeremy will experience that. And, we are thrilled to have more children in the house. They are so much fun! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 21: March 26-April 1, 2009 This week was pretty fun, full of weddings and parties. I know...more weddings! Lots of our friends are getting married! :o) I am still having some nausea, but I can keep it under control if I eat first thing in the morning. I am getting used to it. My energy is picking up a bit - Joshua and I are enjoying more outings. We are going to the park more often, attending more play-dates, and enjoying the spring weather. I was surprised on Tuesday, during the last Women's Bible Study session at our church. The ladies in my small group gave me a beautiful basket of baby items!
It was filled with clothes, towels, booties, handmade blankets, cloth diapers, bibs, hats, picture frames and other little necessities. It was a very sweet surprise - such a wonderful and unexpected blessing! Thanks ladies! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 20: March 19-25, 2009 This was a big week! :o) I felt the baby's first hiccups on Friday night. SO CUTE! Joshua had hiccups all the time in the womb, so I recognized the feeling immediately. The rest of the week was pretty uneventful so I will jump right to Wednesday.... Our BIG ultrasound!
 My doctor sent me to a special ultrasound office - Ultrasonix. Ray finished work early, and we got there right at 3:30. We waited for a while, and then the nurse called me back. The ultrasound technician came in a few minutes later, and I asked her if we could get a DVD of the ultrasound. She said, "yes." When I was pregnant with Joshua, we went to a special elective ultrasound place to find out his gender. He didn't show us in the doctor's office, so we had to pay to do another special one. But, it was all worth it, because we got a DVD keepsake of the entire ultrasound, set to music. I really wanted another DVD for this baby, so that's why I asked for it. :o) Anyways...she started the ultrasound with some diagnostic measurements. She measured the baby's head, and torso, and everything else. She calculated the measurements, and said the baby was pretty big. I asked if the size would move up my due date, and she said yes, it might be moved up. I will post the new due date in the pregnancy journal, if it changes. Then, she zoomed in between the legs, and it was plain as day... We're having another BOY!!! :o)  She took a few more pictures of everything, and then zoomed in on his face. She got a few good shots, and then turned them into 3D images. Check them out - they are amazing!
She gave us some pictures, and the DVD, and told us my doctor would get the results the next day. We thanked her, and went home to tell Joshua the good news! Jeremy Lucas Rodriguez is coming...sometime in late July/early August! After dinner, we popped in the DVD. It was pretty cool, but not quite what we expected. She basically uploaded some of the best ultrasound and 3D pictures to the DVD. It is a collection of still pictures - but it's still a wonderful keepsake! We are SO happy to know we're having another boy. Boys are so much fun - such wonderful little blessings! The ultrasound was an amazing experience, and now we are so excited to meet our new son, Jeremy! I am still having morning nausea, and some dizziness when I don't eat on schedule. I am also feeling more and more baby kicks! Those little rolls and movements are amazing! The baby especially kicks and pushes when I am sitting upright at the computer. He/she pushes back to say, "Hey, Mom, I'm getting squished here!" I am eagerly awaiting my big ultrasound on the 25th...the countdown has begun! I can't wait to find out what we're having. It doesn't really matter if it's a boy or girl, as long as the baby's healthy. But, I love to know ahead of time, so I can start bonding with the baby. Have I told you our name choices? If it's a girl: Mikaylah Marie. And, if it's a boy: Jeremy Lucas. :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 18: March 5-11, 2009 This has been another fun week! Our friends Dan and Laurel got married on Friday! It was a memorable and beautiful wedding. Ray and I danced the night away, and I think the baby was confused by the loud noises - s/he was kicking and moving a lot while we were dancing! On Saturday afternoon I got my hair cut! I have been thinking about it for a while, so I went for it.
I plan to donate my hair to "Locks of Love," like I did when I was pregnant with Joshua. I guess it's my little pregnancy tradition. :o) The rest of the week was nice and relaxing... We went to dinner for Ray's birthday on Tuesday evening. Happy 26th birthday bebe! You are such a wonderful husband, and a true blessing from the Lord! I am still feeling a bit sick in the mornings, but it's definitely getting easier. As long as I eat something first thing, my stomach usually calms down. I can certainly live with it...if I have to! :o) I will post another belly picture next week. Then...on the 25th of March, we will find out if we're having a boy or girl! I am so excited - and I will keep you all posted! Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 17: February 26-March 4, 2009 This has been a great week - busy, but fun! I am still experiencing some nausea, but it's getting a little better. I had another Dr. appointment on Friday the 27th. Everything went well - I am on track with my weight gain (+3 pounds from last time), and the heartbeat sounded strong. The Dr. gave me a referral to have my BIG ultrasound! It will check the baby's anatomy and gender. I made the appointment for March 25th, and I can't wait to find out what we're having! I will keep you all posted! :o) We went to our friend's baby's 1st birthday on Sunday, and it was a blast. Joshua was scoping out his new toys, hoping for a future play date! And, my friend Brandy gave me a bag of maternity clothes at the party! We are about the same size, so everything fits great. It was such a wonderful blessing - thanks Brandy! And, for the icing on the cake - Ray felt the baby move on Wednesday night! We were laying in bed, getting ready to fall asleep when the baby started kicking. I put Ray's hand on my belly, and he felt the little kicks! It was so sweet - he said, "Oh! Hi Baby!" It's so fun when you can share the first kicks with your husband, it makes everything feel more real. Until my next Pregnancy Journal Update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 16: February 19-25, 2009 Hi friends! Well, my nausea is still hanging on. It was gone by this time with Joshua, but now it wants to stay a while. It is decreasing everyday, so that's a good sign! I was put on antibiotics this week for a little bacterial infection. I think those pills made me sick, because I always felt queasy after taking them. So, maybe that's what caused my nausea to linger, we'll see. I have a major blessing to report - I have a new part-time job! I was filing our taxes with our usual tax lady, Jill, and she offered me a job doing some bookkeeping and data entry. She works with her husband out of their home, right down the street from my house. Plus, they offered flexible hours and a great rate. So, I got started this week, and I am really enjoying it! Jill and Mike are super nice and helpful. I think everything will work out great! Money was getting pretty tight, and now we have a little more breathing room. Praise the Lord! He truly meets every need! Just trust Him, and He will provide. :o) Until my next Pregnancy Journal Update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 15: February 12-18, 2009 First of all, sorry for updating so late! Boy, life has been busy... My nausea was still pretty bad, but it was trumped by some serious lower back pain. It started as a pinched nerve, and just got worse. Thank God for my Chiropractor, Dr. Birnie! He adjusted my back on Monday, and it was 75% better by Tuesday. So, I was in some pain on Valentine's Day, but Ray and I still had a fun date night. We went to dinner, watched a movie, and went out afterward for doughnuts! We both had cravings, and Joshua was at my Dad's house for the night, so we made a late dash for Krispy Kremes! Yum! :o) I also experienced a wonderful blessing this week - My friend Amber lent me her maternity clothes!
Now I have some new things to add to my small maternity wardrobe, including some pretty dresses and blouses. We don't really have the money for new maternity clothes, so it was a wonderful blessing! Thanks Amber! Until my next pregnancy journal update, may God bless your week!
~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 14: February 5-11, 2009 The nausea is getting worse, but I guess I'm getting used to it! I'm hoping that it's done in a couple of weeks. It vanished with Joshua at around 16 weeks. So, we'll see! I saw my doctor this Friday, and I have actually lost 2 pounds since my last visit. I need to start eating more, whenever I can, to start gaining weight. So, it's been fun to "pig out" a little! My big cravings - yogurt and chicken sandwiches. :o) Ray, Joshua and I heard the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler at the appointment! What an amazing thing - to hear your baby's heartbeat for the first time! The doctor found the heartbeat quickly, and it was strong and steady - about 154 beats per minute (bpm). I am also feeling more movements. They are not super strong yet, but they are gentle little reminders of my growing baby. God is so good, and I know He's taking care of everything. I'll post some new belly pictures in my next pregnancy journal update. :o) God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 13: January 29-February 4, 2009 This week has been pretty good. I still have nausea, but I have been so busy I haven't noticed as much. On Friday I was pretty sick, but after dinner I felt some distinct baby movements in my lower belly. They were light little jabs, and I recognized them immediately. However, I am only 13 weeks - I felt Joshua move for the first time around 16 weeks. Is it too soon to feel movement? I did some research, and the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting" said that second-time moms will sometimes feel movements sooner. Usually because they know what to expect, and their muscles are more relaxed the second time around. What about you? I am so excited to start feeling more and more baby kicks. That's my favorite part of pregnancy. Especially, when the baby gets bigger, and you can see your whole belly roll around! It's so amazing!I also joined a little book club this week. We're reading "Lies Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. This is a great book - I highly recommend it! Lately, God has been refining my priorities for my family, and my goals for this website. He has been showing me the power of His Word, to strengthen and encourage individuals and families. The Word of God is timeless and so relevant for our lives. I plan to focus more on The Bible as I develop new pages for the site. I want His words to shine through, and not my own. I am excited to see what He has in store for all of us! :o) Until my next pregnancy journal update - may God bless your week! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 12: January 22-28, 2009 Well...another tough week, but I am thanking God in the midst of it. It seems that my nausea is getting worse, even though I am nearing the end of the 1st trimester. Hopefully it starts to get better soon! I did feel pretty good on Sunday afternoon. So, Ray and I took Joshua for a walk to a nearby park. We were scoping it out for his second birthday party. Yes, my baby is turning two next week! Where does the time go? Joshua is a wonderful boy, and we are so blessed to have him as our son. His upcoming birthday is really making me appreciate this pregnancy...even the nausea! I can see how fast the time is flying by with him, which is teaching me to love and enjoy every minute of motherhood. I am just so thankful that we have been blessed with our son, and that God is sustaining this pregnancy. Every week brings me closer to welcoming our second child, and that is wonderfully exciting! So, I will push on, through my nausea and sickness. It's all worth it, to have another "little gift" in our home! Until my next pregnancy journal post - may God bless your week. ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 11: January 15-21, 2009 This has been a tough week, but God has been faithful to help me through it. For most of the week, I have had my regular nausea and fatigue. Nope, It's not over yet. Hopefully in the next few weeks, I'll start to feel better. On Monday, I felt a little better - less nausea. So, I got some things done around the house. But, I think I overdid it - I started feeling very sick before bed. Then, Joshua's little cold got worse. I took him to the doctor on Tuesday morning, and he said it wasn't serious. No infections. So, that was good news. But, it was still hard to work through my nausea and care for a sick toddler. I pray everyday for the energy and strength to make it through the day, and God constantly sustains me. He always gives me, and my family, what we need when we need it. He can be trusted, in all the little details of everyday life. Next week should be better. I will continue to post new pages on the site, before my next pregnancy journal update. I hope you enjoy them, and have a great week. :o) ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 10: January 8-14, 2009 I had my first OB-GYN appointment this week! I love my new doctor, she seems very sweet, informative, and helpful. I stepped on the scale at the beginning of the appointment, expecting to have gained quite a bit. Nope - only 2 pounds more than pre-pregnancy! Yay! I think I am on the right track with my diet. I craved mostly junk food with Joshua...but this time I seem to be craving more fruits and veggies and lean proteins. Ray went with me to the appointment. After my doctor asked me a few questions and did a little exam, she started up the ultrasound machine. It was a vaginal ultrasound this time, so the baby was very easy to see. The baby's heartbeat and size is right on track - Praise the Lord!
The baby is in the dark black area, laying on its side. The head is in the middle, and the body is laying toward the left. You can even see the little elbows sticking out! During the ultrasound, the baby was doing a little dance (it looked like the Hula!). So cute! Here's my first belly picture - I'm pooching a bit! Oh, and this is only the beginning! I got pretty big with Joshua - I will probably get even bigger this time. And, I'm due August 13th, so I will need lots of prayer during the hot summer! :o)

God bless! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 9: January 1-7, 2009 Wow - 2009 is already here! It seems like 2008 just flew by. Have you made any New Year's Resolutions? I wasn't planning to at first - but God has put some things on my heart... At church on Sunday, one of our pastors spoke about "pulling weeds and planting seeds." Basically, that we need to deal with the sin in our lives - the weeds that spring up. We need to recognize our sin, confess it, and ask for forgiveness - to pull those weeds as soon as possible. But, we can't stop there. We also need to plant seeds to grow spiritually. We need to renew our dedication to read God's word, pray, and build a strong relationship with Him. After all, a strong relationship with our Lord, builds a strong defense against sin. And, I would much rather be growing in the Lord, than just pulling weeds all day! :o) I felt God tugging on my heart during this message. So, I renewed my commitment to pull weeds and plant seeds in my life. What does this have to do with my pregnancy? Everything! Parenting a child is a wonderful experience. But it can also be very challenging, draining, and exhausting. I don't really know what I am in store for - caring for a newborn and a toddler at the same time. But, God does! I can feel his guidance, encouraging me to grow and mature so I can handle the double work load ahead. And, of course He wants me to grow and mature as an individual too. I love that about our God - He will prepare us for the road ahead, if we listen to and obey His guidance. He really is the "Good Shepherd," and I am learning to trust and follow His voice (see John 10:1-18). Next week I have my first prenatal visit with my OB-GYN! I will let you know how it goes, and post some belly and ultrasound pictures. God bless! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 8: December 25-31, 2008 Sorry, I'm a few days late in updating my journal. I have been feeling pretty sick this week. I am still able to control my nausea, but Tuesday night was pretty scary. I was so close to being sick, I couldn't stand long enough to wash my face before bed. Ray really took care of me, he's so sweet! I have found more "nausea fighters," as I try to combat my increasing sickness. Bubbly drinks really help, like Martinelli's Sparkling Cider and juice with club soda. These choices are healthier than regular soda - they have fewer calories, and much less sugar. Also, all-natural trail mix has helped to ease my stomach. I like the new Planter's blend with almonds, pistachios, cranberries, and raisins. It's a great blend of protein and carbohydrates. If any of you are going through morning sickness too...I feel for ya! I hope these snacks help to ease your discomfort. :o) ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 7: December 18-24, 2008 This week was a whirlwind! I was extremely tired and fighting a cold, but had to push through it to get everything purchased and mailed for Christmas. It was overwhelming, but I got it all done! My nausea is getting worse, but it's still manageable. I have been eating whatever sounds good, but I'm trying to make it as healthy as possible. For example, I was craving Chinese food - sweet and sour chicken to be exact. So, I went to this really healthy Chinese restaurant near my house. I ordered their S&S Chicken with all white meat, lots of fresh veggies, and brown rice. Also, when craving hot dogs, I went out and got Hebrew National 99% fat free dogs and whole wheat buns. Yeah, it was still high in salt, but a little healthier than the typical choices. This week, especially on Tuesday night, I was overcome with worry. I talked it out with Ray, and turned to my favorite verses - Philippians 4:6-9 (see last week's log), and Matthew 6:25-34. I rely on these verses a lot, they help to calm me down whenever I worry...which is often! :o/ I hope you all have a Merry Christmas! I will update again on New Year's Eve. ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 6: December 11-17, 2008 I have had some nausea and fatigue this week, but I have not had any major morning sickness yet. Thank God! I got really sick with Joshua, so I am praying this nausea is the worst of it. I have also been cramping a little, but I discovered that it goes away when I drink enough liquids. So, I have been drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water, milk, or juice per day, and now the cramps are mostly gone. I also discovered that protein rich foods - like yogurt, milk, peanut butter, and lean meats - really help to fight nausea. Chai Tea Lattes also help to calm the stomach - I discovered that with my first pregnancy. They have a soothing combination of cinnamon, spices, and warm milk. And, with only 75 mg of caffeine in a small cup, they are safe to enjoy during pregnancy. I was encouraged by a passage of scripture this week - Philippians 4:6-9. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me — put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Sometimes I really tend to worry...about everything! But this verse helps me focus my thoughts on what's right. When I fully trust the Lord and keep my thoughts positive, I notice a big difference in my day. He gives me His wonderful, lasting peace - a peace that transcends all understanding. This is a passage I have been trying to memorize, because it is so relevant for everyday worries and thoughts. I hope you are encouraged by this passage too! God bless! ~~~~ Pregnancy Journal - Week 5: December 4-10, 2008 I should have had my period this week - no sign of it. No spotting...nothing. At church on Sunday, I got a little nauseated. And, I felt a little cramping when I stood too fast for the ending song. I think things are just starting to grow and stretch - nothing to worry about. On Monday I got my personal pregnancy journal. It's the The What to Expect Pregnancy Journal & Organizer by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel.
I want to have something I can write in, like a personal diary. I did the same thing with my pregnancy with Joshua, and I loved it! I jot-down my symptoms, doctor visit notes, thoughts, emotions, and little notes to the baby. It's a wonderful memento, and provides helpful information for this new pregnancy.
I used the Great Expectations: Pregnancy Journal & Planner by Marcie Jones and Sandy Jones, for my first pregnancy. I really liked it, but I wanted to try a different pregnancy journal this time, so I could compare the two. I'll let you know what I think about both books, as I go along. I went to my primary care doctor on the 10th for an Obstetrician referral. I told the friendly doctor about my light cramping, and she wasn't too worried about it. She said it's pretty normal. The doctor gave me the due date of August 13th, and the referral to my OB/GYN. As soon as I got home, I called my new Obstetrician and made my first real pre-natal appointment. They don't see new patients until after they reach 8 weeks, which is after Christmas for me. So, they scheduled me on January 9th (which will be closer to 10 weeks). That was a bummer. I was hoping to get in ASAP. I think the Lord is teaching me patience, as I learn to completely trust Him in everything (that will be a major theme in this pregnancy journal!). :o) Pregnancy Journal - Week 4: November 27-December 3, 2008 I spent a few days of this week in Northern California with my family for Thanksgiving. I took an early result pregnancy test on Friday the 28th - and it was positive! I was not expecting a positive result so soon, considering I tested 5 days before I should start my period. What an amazing surprise! I told Ray (hubby) and Joshua (21 mo. old son) right after I got the positive result. It was only 8:00 am, and they were still lounging in bed. I looked right at Joshua and said, "You're going to have a little brother or sister!" They both started smiling, and Ray said, "Really?! You already found out?" He was thrilled - he gave me a hug and thanked the Lord. Then, we got to share the news with my family, in person! They were so happy - especially my Mom! I took a second test 2 days later - positive. I took the third test 2 days after that - positive. And, I never started my period - that's all the convincing I need! :o) Some early symptoms: tender breasts, fatigue, and some light cramping.
